Reef Point
I would like to remind folks with dogs that they can bring them out to Reef Point Trails behind the Great Bear. It is a classic trail.
Trail freshly packed and track set today. Trail in great condition.

  • Jan 3 - Tilson Creek Ski Trail:
Conditions: Good. About 26*F when we started at 3pm. Glide was fabulous!
The skating lane has been groomed within the last few days and is in good condition. Our abundant snowfall has evened out the trail irregularities for the most part. There are still some stretches that have brush showing through. Overall though, the skating lane is in good shape; the best in several years. I didn't classic but it appears as though the track needs to be reset. The trail is getting considerable use but we are having some problems with dogs running the trail. Or were they wolves?

  • Jan 2 - Black Bay Ski Trail:
Conditions: Excellent throughout the entire trail.
With over 20 inches of snow in the International Falls area, our cross country skiing is as good as we have seen it in years. The Park Service with their new groomer has tracked the 3 linked loops of the Black Bay Trail. This is a beautiful single-track classic trail generally easy to ski but with a couple of nice downhills. The ice road to the trailhead from the Rainly Lake Voyageurs National Park HQ is not plowed so that skiers must park at Sha Sha resort and ski across the Black Bay narrows to the trail.
