The 2007/08 ski season has come to a close, unless you have some serious rock skis and don't care much about glide.

It was a great season for the Rainy Lake Nordic ski club. The snow came early, there was lots of it, and it stayed late. Our paid membership grew from 12 people to 71 this year, and we had many generous contibutions at the trailhead donation box.

The club hosted several events that were very successfull.  We kicked off the year with agarage sale fundraiser, followed by two Family days. The Family Days were well attended and many new skiers were introduced to the sport and the club. Our first candlelight ski and social saw a full house and an evening of fun, food and music. Finally, the club hosted our first annual race, the Rocky Cup, where skiers of all ages competed.

Of course, none of the events would have been possible without the help extended by all our volunteers. A big thanks to everyone who pitched in this year.

Looking for something to do in the off season?The club will be holding a bench contest next fall.  We are in need of several benches both for the trail and around the fire pit. If you have some extra lumber, logs, or just a good idea, think about a design and get ready to submit your bench to the contest .  Make it a family project! We have yet to decide what the prizes will be, but each contribution will be very much appreciated by the tired skiers and the hot dog roasting kids. Keep an eye out for an email with contest details to be sent this summer.
